Read this before using Root

Root Health Lab provides educational content about functional health, alongside personalised symptom analysis and curated recommendations for supplements and tests. This service is not a substitute for professional medical care.

Read this disclaimer in full before using our symptom check, taking any supplements we recommend, or acting on any information we provide.

Root is not medical advice

The information we provide — including the personalised symptom report generated by our analysis — is for educational and informational purposes only. It is not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a treatment plan. Root does not replace consultation with a qualified medical professional.

Our analysis works by recognising patterns in the symptoms you describe and matching them to common functional health frameworks. It cannot account for your full medical history, your medications, or any condition that requires diagnostic testing only a clinician can interpret.

We are not your doctor

Root is not a healthcare provider. We do not employ doctors, nurses, or licensed medical practitioners. We do not have access to your medical records, run clinical tests, or prescribe medication.

If you have a medical condition, are taking prescription medication, or are concerned about your symptoms, speak with your GP or a qualified healthcare professional before acting on anything Root recommends.

When to seek urgent medical care

Some symptoms require immediate attention. Do not delay seeking care if you experience any of the following:

  • Severe persistent chest pain or shortness of breath at rest

  • Severe persistent headaches with neurological symptoms (vision changes, weakness, speech difficulty)

  • Blood in your stool, urine, or vomit

  • Unintentional significant weight loss

  • High fever with neck stiffness

  • Thoughts of harming yourself or ending your life

  • Any symptom that feels acute, severe, or rapidly worsening

In a medical emergency in the UK, dial 999. For urgent but non-emergency concerns, dial NHS 111. If you are struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide, contact Samaritans on 116 123.

Supplements

The supplements we recommend are available without prescription and are generally well-tolerated. However:

  • Supplements can interact with prescription and over-the-counter medications. If you are taking any medication, speak to your GP or pharmacist before starting any new supplement.

  • Some supplements are not suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

  • Individual responses vary. If a supplement causes an adverse reaction, stop taking it and seek medical advice.

  • Always follow the dosage instructions on the product packaging.

  • Keep all supplements out of reach of children.

If you have a known medical condition — including but not limited to thyroid disease, diabetes, kidney or liver disease, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions, or any condition affecting how your body processes nutrients — speak to your doctor before starting supplements.

Tests

The tests we recommend are provided by independent third-party partners. Test results should be interpreted in the context of your full clinical picture, ideally alongside a qualified clinician such as your GP or a registered functional medicine practitioner. Root does not interpret your test results for you.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and existing conditions

If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, do not act on Root's recommendations without speaking to your GP or midwife first. Many supplements are not appropriate during these stages.

If you have a diagnosed medical condition or are under specialist care, Root's recommendations should be discussed with your specialist before changing anything in your routine.

Age

Root's service is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not provide health analysis for children, and our recommendations should not be applied to anyone under 18.

Accuracy

We make every effort to ensure our analysis and recommendations are grounded in current functional medicine practice. The field is evolving and individual circumstances vary. We make no guarantee of accuracy or outcome. Root's reports describe possible patterns, not certainties.

Affiliate disclosure

Some of the supplements and tests we recommend are linked through affiliate partners, which means we may earn a commission if you purchase through our links. This does not affect what we recommend — our picks are chosen on merit. The cost to you is unchanged.

Your responsibility

By using Root, you agree that:

  • You are using our service voluntarily and at your own risk

  • You will not delay seeking medical care because of anything Root has told you

  • You will speak to a qualified medical professional before making any significant change to your health, especially if you have a medical condition or take medication

  • You understand that Root is not a substitute for medical care
